BANGOR – Robert J. “Bob” Joyce died Oct. 24, 2008, in Bangor, after a long illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1940, in Portland, the son of Timothy and Dora Joyce. He attended St. Dominic’s School and was a 1958 graduate of Cheverus High School, Portland. Bob worked for many years as an engineer for Maine Central Railroad and its successors, and prior to that was a firefighter for Portland Fire Department. More recently he lived in the Bangor area, but was a longtime resident of Main Street, South Portland. Bob loved to garden; his specialty was tomatoes, which he preserved and then used in his spaghetti sauce. He also had a real talent for forecasting the weather with a high degree of accuracy. Bob is survived by daughter, Susan Stalhman and her husband, Mike and their children, Sarah, Micah and Hannah, of Kauffman, Texas; daughter, Pamela Joyce and her daughter, Jessica Joyce; Pamela’s fiance, William Pushard and their sons, Benjamin and Caleb, of Freeport; and son, Michael Joyce and his fiancee, Rachel and son, Ryan, of Seattle. He was also the beloved brother of Philip of Brewer and Timothy of Saco; and sisters, Barbara Allen of Coral Gables, Fla., Mary O’Bradovich of Limington and Kathleen Veroneau of Westbrook. A memorial service will be held in Portland at a date to be announced. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 98R, Portland, ME 04101.
