DANFORTH and BANGOR – Richard K. Bartlett Sr., husband of the late Noreen Bartlett, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 5, 2008, in Bangor. He was born Nov. 27, 1918, in Danforth, the fourth of 12 children to Emerson and Lydia Bartlett. He graduated from Danforth High School in 1939. In his earlier years, Richard worked with his father and brothers as a cook in logging camps. He served his country for more than five years in World War II, cooking and managing mess halls, eventually being chosen to cook for Gen. Eisenhower’s company. Upon his return to Maine he relocated to Bangor, where he met his wife, Noreen Rowe; they married in 1950 and settled in Carmel, where they raised their family. Through the years, “Red” worked at various locations as a master electrician. He belonged to the Electrical Union, American Legion, Masons and Shriners. After his wife’s early passing, he returned to his “beloved Danforth” to be with his brothers and sisters, and enjoy his childhood fishing spots. “Red Bartlett” was a quiet, Christian man, was well respected and liked by all. He is survived by one daughter, Johanna Treadwell of Hermon; two sons, Richard Bartlett Jr. and his wife, Rosemary, of Hermon and Darrell Bartlett and his wife, Sylvia, of Norridgwock; brothers, Winston and his wife, Elaine, of Danforth and Bill and Judy of Eagle Point, Ore.; sister-in-law, Gertie Bartlett of Danforth; sisters, Barbara and her husband, Austin Kinney, of Houlton, Fay Stilphen of Houlton and Martha-Dale Mason and her husband, Phil, of Houlton; 10 grandchildren, Abia and Shawn Treadwell, Ryan Bartlett and wife, Wendi, Renissa Becker and husband, Mark, Roman Bartlett and wife, Jeanne, Rhett Bartlett, Mark Bartlett and wife, Jutta, Mike Bartlett of Norridgewock, Valerie and husband, Mike Abruzzese, and Nicki and husband, Randy Ragland; 14 1/2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bartlett was predeceased by his wife, Noreen in 1976; infant brothers, Roger and Russell; brothers, Eaton and John Bartlett and wife, Katie; and sisters, Helen Fickett Beal and Izetta and husband, Edward Larrabee. A special thanks to the Veterans’ Affairs Hospital in Bangor for their tender care for the past couple years. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Clay Funeral Home-Bartlett Chapel, Danforth, with a viewing between 1-2 p.m. Pastor Bob Root will be officiating. Interment will then be at Danforth Cemetery. After the service, light refreshments will be served. Gifts in memory of Richard may be made to the Bangor Veterans’ Home Activity Program.
