FORT KENT – Genevieve (Jalbert) Bouchard, 99, died Nov. 9, 2008, at Crosswinds Residential Care Facility after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 14, 1909, in Fort Kent, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Soucy) Jalbert. She was a graduate of Madawaska Training School, Class of 1926. She taught school for 23 years in Fort Kent and retired in 1972. She married Louis J. Bouchard, in 1929, who predeceased her in 1959. She was the recipient of the Alumni Gold Cane for being the oldest living graduate from what is now the University of Maine at Fort Kent. She was a member of Northern Maine Medical Center Hospital Guild, Aroostook Retired Teachers Association, Maine Teachers Association, National Education Association, AARP and Fort Kent Senior Citizens Club. She is survived by her two children, Charles Bouchard of New Canada and Linda Pelletier of Fort Kent; one sister, Bernadine Foley of North Conway, N.H.; one daughter-in-law, Joella Paradis of Fort Kent; her grandchildren, Michael Bouchard of Fort Kent, David Bouchard of Atlanta, Ga., James Bouchard of Fort Kent, Louise Tardie of Ellsworth, Kristy Servheen of Missoula, Mont., Susan Devoe of New Canada and Jill Carnes of Fort Kent; four stepgrandchildren, Debra Poggi of Dairy, N.H., Denis Martin of Chandler, Ariz., Jeff Martin of Solon and Michael Martin of Gilbert, Ariz.; 22 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Jack Bouchard, in 1987; and one daughter-in-law, Betty Martin Bouchard; and two brothers, Clarence and Herman Jalbert. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no viewing at the funeral home. Family and friends are all invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Soldier Pond, with committal service afterward at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Kent. The family will greet friends at the church entrance 45 minutes prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Genevieve Bouchard may be made to the University of Maine at Fort Kent Foundation Development Office, 23 University Drive, Fort Kent, ME 04743. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Arrangements are being conducted by Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent.
