ALTHEA ISABEL ‘BETTY’ KIRSCHNER

LINCOLNVILLE – Althea Isabel “Betty” Kirschner, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at the Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill, Camden, after a nine-month battle with cancer. Betty was born Althea Isabel Risser, Dec. 25, 1934, in Boothbay Harbor, to parents, William A. and Mabel A. Risser. Educated in Augusta schools, she attended Williams Grammar School and graduated from Cony High School in 1952. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Betty married John Kirschner and they resided in Augusta where they raised a family. In 1994, they moved to Lincolnville. Earlier in life, Betty was an avid skier and also loved and played tennis up until recently. Her hobbies were needlework and tennis, and she loved watching tennis, golf, football and NASCAR on television. She thoroughly enjoyed travel, Hawaii, and most of all, her friends, family, children and grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her parents; and an older brother, Laurie. Another brother, Eldon Risser, resides in Bangor. She is survived by her husband, John M. Kirschner Sr.; son, John M. Kirschner Jr. and his wife, Catherine S. Kirschner; daughter, Ann M. Murphy and her husband, Kevin S. Murphy; daughter, Kathryn K. Brown and her husband, Dr. Charles E. Brown; and grandchildren, Jennifer Murphy, Jaimie Kirschner, Alison Kirschner, Jason Murphy, Makayla Brown, Nicole Kirschner and Mary Kirschner. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Augusta. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester.
