STONINGTON – Andrew “Andy” A. Leali, 92, passed away Nov. 10, 2008, peacefully at his home. He was born Nov. 25, 1915, in Stonington, the son of the late Guiseppi J. and Emilia (Molinello) Leali. He graduated from Stonington High School in 1932. He went on to achieve an electrical degree from New York Electrical School in 1933 and also a degree in accounting from Lasalle Extension University, Chicago, in 1938. He married Henrietta Libby, June 16, 1940. Andy served during World War II in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Edsall from October 1943 to February 1946. After his service in the Navy, he returned to work at Colwell Brothers Co-Op where he retired from after 50 years. Andy was a 60-year member of American Legion Rodney Stinson Post No. 102, where he served as treasurer for many years. He was also a notary republic. Andy was an avid walker and enjoyed his morning walks. He is survived by his son, Robert Leali of Brewer; grandchildren, Debbie Richards and husband, Jeff, of Belfast, Wendy Tripp and husband, Lawrence, of Frankfort, Bobbie-Jo Gillway and husband, James, of Searsport, and Andrew Leali and wife, Melissa, of Frankfort; stepgrandson, Sione Taungatua and wife, Kara, of Prospect; nine great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; brother, Dominic Leali of Castine; sisters, Lucia Donavan, and Mary Blackmore and husband, Edward, all of Stonington; many nieces, nephews and special friends. Andy was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Henrietta (Libby) Leali, in 2000. Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Stonington. Friends are invited to visit with the family noon until time of service 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the funeral home with Alder A. Dowe Eaton officiating. Burial will be at Mount Rest Cemetery at Burnt Cove.
