MAPLETON – Dorothy L. Sowers, 78, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died Nov. 11, 2008, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born Sept. 23, 1930, in Houlton, the daughter of Lewis P. and Mary Louise (Devoe) LeVasseur. She attended schools in Houlton, and she married Earl Sowers, Feb. 7, 1947, in Houlton. She received her certified nurses aide certificate in 1978 and worked for Presque Isle Nursing Home for a few years. Then she worked for Aroostook Medical Center as a dietary aide for 33 years. Dorothy loved to cook, crochet, knit and plant flowers. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle. She is survived by her husband, Earl of Mapleton; a son, David Sowers and his wife, Debi, of Mapleton; two daughters, Rose Mary Piccolella of Caribou and Lucille Sowers and her friend, Ron Albert, of Presque Isle; a brother, Walter LeVasseur of Florida; three sisters, Lorraine LeVasseur of Tennessee, Betty Mae LeVasseur and Joanne LeVasseur, both of Lewiston; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, James Rodney Sowers; four brothers, Johnny, Patrick, Edward and Lawrence LeVasseur; a sister, Jean LeVasseur; and a son-in-law, Joseph Piccolella. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Raymond Morency officiating. Arrangements in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home.
