BROOKSVILLE – Carolyn “Cal” Colburn Eaton passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at home in Brooksville after a brief illness. She was born in Bangor, May 23, 1937, the daughter of the late Edwin L. and Leola B. Colburn. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1955 and attended Westbrook College until marrying the love of her life, Dwight L. Eaton, also of Bangor. Carolyn lived in Bar Harbor for 35 years, where she was a member of St. Savior’s Episcopal Church, before retiring with her husband to their sum-mer home in Brooksville, where she was very active in her community. She was an associate member of Brooksville United Methodist Church, and served as Treasurer of Brooks-ville United Methodist Women and helped coordinate numerous fund-raising activities. Her organizational skills and creative talents benefited the church in many visible ways. Her life-long passion was sewing. She was an accomplished seamstress and recently joined a quilting group spending fun-filled Saturdays working on projects and attending quilting shows. Carolyn enjoyed summers sailing on Penobscot Bay and taking annual winter trips to Mexico with family and friends. She was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed tennis, golf, football and women’s basketball. She was a beautiful swimmer and a member of the Bangor High synchronized swim team, the Dolphins, until she contracted rheumatoid arthritis at age 15. Carolyn was well read and enjoyed keeping abreast of world events and politics, and served as a ballot clerk in Bar Harbor for many years. Carolyn was a happy home-maker and provided a warm and safe home for her family and their friends. She enjoyed attending bank functions with Dwight who was employed by Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. Carolyn and her husband spent many years renovating the Captain Black House, their summer residence in Brooks-ville. She often quipped, “I am the other end of a 2 x 4.” Carolyn will be sorely mis-sed by her husband and children; her “soul sisters,” Mary Rand and Mary Perkins, her large circle of friends, which included the Belles of ’55, her breakfast buddies at the Buck’s Harbor Market, the regular attendees of Meals for Me, her quilting group, the BUMC congregation, all her dearest friends and her cherished dogs WYSIWYG and Poo. Woodward and fianc?, William H. Lissenden, of Pownal; son, David C. Eaton and wife, Car-olyn H. Eaton, of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; grandchildren, Kyle E. Shea, Samuel E. Woodward, Benjamin N.
