FORT FAIRFIELD – Omar A. Deabay, 85, husband of Glenna (McMann) Deabay, passed away Friday evening, Nov. 14, 2008, at a Presque Isle health care facility after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 23, 1923, in Andover, New Brunswick, the son of Archie and Marie (Clavette) Deabay. Omar attended school in Carlingford, New Brunswick, and served in the Canadian Army Infantry during World War II. He was married to Glen-na McMann, Dec. 27, 1954, and had worked as a farm laborer, was self-employed as a potato farmer and worked for Great Northern Paper in heavy equip-ment maintenance for 15 years until his retirement at the age of 65. Omar will be remembered by all who knew him as a clean living, honest and hard-working man. He was a good provider, a loving husband, father and grandfather and all around good man. His dear friend, Roy Peterson, summarized these characteristics, referring to Omar as a “grand old gentleman.” In addition to his parents, Mr. Deabay was predeceased by two daughters, Bonnie and Linda Deabay. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Glenna Deabay of Fort Fair-field; three sons, Stephen O. Deabay of Fort Fairfield, Gary W. Deabay of Haverhill, Mass., and Randy P. Deabay of Fort Fairfield; one brother, David Deabay of Virginia; three sisters, Celia Morse of Fort Fair-field, Freida Woullette of Connecticut and Isabelle Howard of Virginia; seven grandchildren, Brad Allan Deabay, Brock Casey Deabay, Kerie-Anne Bonnie Deabay, Taniesha Deabay, Eli Bennett Deabay, all of Brewer, Shawn Patrick Deabay and Kailie Elizabeth Deabay, both of Haverhill, Mass.; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 8 p.m. by the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. Interment will be held after the service at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Cemetery, Andover, New Brunswick. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
