CALAIS – George Read Blackman, died peacefully Nov. 18, 2008, at home. Mr. Blackman was born May 15, 1931, in Milford, Conn. Mr. Blackman held bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the State University of Mississippi. He was admitted to the Mississippi bar and to the federal bar in Mississippi and Maine. He also held a merchant marine license and served as a naval officer during the Korean War. Mr. Blackman was also a probation and parole officer in Waldo and Washington counties. Mr. Blackman will be greatly missed by the Drew family, very special friends of the Calais area; also Betty Moreside, his guardian angel, David Ramsay, Reggie Storey, Donald Hiland and many special friends from the Calais police department. At the request of Mr. Blackman, there will be no funeral services. A gathering of fellowship will be held in honor of Mr. Blackman at his home in Calais, at a later date. Interment will be in Long Island, N.Y. No more mooring lines Captain, just open sea and firm winds to hasten your journey.
