HOULTON – Ruth Neal Cum-ming, 79, died Nov. 17, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 9, 1929, in Debec, New Brunswick, the daughter of Kenneth and Dora (Hatfield) Neal. Ruth was a member of Houlton United Methodist Church and Ebbett Circle. Ruth started working at Boston Shoe Store, Houlton, at the early age of 17, and retired when the store closed its doors in the 1980s. She especially loved her dogs, but her greatest love was spending time at Drews Lake with her family, and in the last five years the light of her life was her grandson, John. Ruth is survived by her sons, Leonard Cumming and his wife, Mary, of Odessa, Fla., and James Cumming and his wife, Deborah, of Houlton; three grandchildren, Tyson and Tiffany Cumming, and John Cumming. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John; her son, Robert; and brother, Kenneth Neal Jr. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Naomi Sam’Kpakra officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton.
