SIMSBURY, Conn. – Douglas L. Smith, 65, loving husband of Meredith C. (Cleveland) Smith, entered into eternal rest Nov. 21, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, Conn. A resident of Simsbury, Conn., for the past 15 years, Douglas was born Oct. 7, 1943, in Glen Ridge, N.J., to the late Leslie S. and Doris V. (Lachenauer) Smith. He was a senior technical programmer at Stanley Works, where he was employed for 35 years. In his leisure time, Douglas enjoyed kayaking, photography and camping with his family. In addition to his wife, he leaves to mourn his loss, his two sons, Steven Smith of Enfield, Conn., and Aaron J. Smith of Brewer; his granddaughter, Ashlee Smith; his stepdaughters, Sally Cadwgan of Simsbury, Conn., and Kathryn Cadwgan of California; and his sister, Patricia Garafano and her husband, John, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Douglas was predeceased by his son, Alexander “Sandy” Smith. Funeral services for Douglas will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, Conn. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
