PENOBSCOT – Kenneth “Captain” D. Rancourt Sr., 81, passed away Nov. 22, 2008, at the Bangor Veterans’ Home. Ken was born June 6, 1927, in Benton, son of the late Harry J. Sr. and Alice Mae (Roderick) Rancourt. Ken served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korea. He then worked as an electrician with the IBEW Local 1253, Augusta, retiring in 1989. Ken enjoyed gardening, camping, dancing, traveling, fishing, boating and woodworking. He enjoyed having coffee at Bucksport McDonald’s, and spending time with family and friends. He was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and in the Winterport Snowmobile Club. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Loretta (Phoenix) Rancourt of Penobscot; sons and their wives, Michael and Charlotte Rancourt of Wasilla, Alaska, and Kenneth Jr. and Susan Rancourt of Frankfort; daughters, Margo Richmond and Joy Rancourt, Robin Reynolds and husband, Bob, and Jeanne Caron and husband, Mike; their mother, Dora Rancourt, all of Winterport; stepsons and their wives, Sherman and Tere Gingerella of California, and Eric and Brooke Gingerella, of Penobscot; brothers, John, Reginald, and Leon; sisters, Marguerite and Geraldine; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and seven sisters. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29.
