LAMOINE – Bertha Marion Rosebrook, 95, passed away peacefully Nov. 23, 2008. She was born March 2, 1913, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Harvey D. and Bertha H. (Lancaster) Lear. My grandmother was a one-of-a-kind woman – a little ahead of her time, as she worked as a lobsterwoman along side of my grandfather well before women would take the helm. I remember a story my mom told me of taking her three toddlers, Marilyn, Charlotte and Vera on board a dingy and rowing from Cranberry Island to Southwest Harbor to meet up with her husband. She was a determined woman that let little get between her and her goals; she knew what she wanted and was unafraid to say so! I will always admire my grandmother for she taught all of us something to take through our lives. Bertha attended the Lamoine Baptist Church. Bertha is survived by her loving daughters, Marilyn (Rosebrook) Parkinson and husband, William, of Lamoine, and Charlotte (Rosebrook) Campbell and husband, Gale, of Moorsville, N.C.; grandchildren, William H. Parkinson, Marilyn Parkinson Thrall and husband, Roger, Donald Parkinson and wife, Pam, Joanne Parkinson and fianc?, John, Debra Parkinson Zatursky and husband, Ed, Michael Campbell and wife, Rhonda, Wayne Campbell and wife, Peg, Sandra Campbell, Forrest Randall McMillan and wife, Denise, James McMillan and wife, Elizabeth, Lori McMillan Spruce and husband, Tom, who will all sadly miss her; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen (Lear) MacKinnon; nephews, Kenneth and Lynn MacKinnon, Gerry MacKinnon, and Dana and Mary Lear; and nieces, Rosemary and John Gurney, Edna (Lear) Coyne, and Henrietta (Lear) Jackson and husband, Norman. She was predeceased by her husband, Williard G. Rosebrook; daughter, Vera Ann (Rosebrook) Higgins and husband, Charles; and brothers, Raymond Lear, Frank Russell Lear, Joseph Lear and Harvey Dana Lear. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Contributions in Bertha’s memory may be made to Lamoine Historical Society, care of Anne Stocking, 30 Berry Cove Road, Lamoine, ME 04605, for restoration of the meeting house.
