CAMDEN – M. Gladys Horton, 91, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Country Manor, Whitefield. Gladys was born May 4, 1917, in Rockland, a daughter of the late Timothy and Clara (Sweet) Fisette. She graduated from Deer Isle High School. In 1935 she married Ivan George Arey and they made their home in Stonington. In 1949 they moved to Warren and Mary was employed at M & S Pants Factory, Rockland, worked at Port Clyde Sardine Factory and GTE Sylvania, Waldoboro. Mary owned and operated Lakeside Market, West Rockport. After she sold the market, she opened Whiffle Tree Antique Shop, Route 131, Warren. Mary was a multi-crafter who enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. She loved her flower and vegetable gardens, animals of all kinds and was a great cook. She loved to go to lawn sales and shopping at Good Will. She was a great collector of dolls. For many years she lived in the Amish Country of Pennsylvania. Most of all, Mary enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved being with her grandchildren and spending time spoiling them. She was predeceased by her husband, Darius Horton; three brothers, two sisters; and son-in-law, Paul Wood. Survivors include her son, Sherrill L. Arey and his wife, Juanita, of Warren; daughters, Lolita A. Grater and her husband, William, of Ohio, and Jenina S. Wood of Warren; grandchildren, Anthony and Lenny Arey of Warren, Lee Arey and his wife, Georgia, of Cushing, Linette Crockett and her husband, Michael, of Warren, Michael Grater and his wife, Judy, of Delaware, Paul Grater and his wife, Gayle, of Ohio, Cynthia Wilson and her husband, Robert, of Ohio, Tracy D. Wood of California and Diana L. Hunt of Weeks Mills; 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Pleasant Cemetery, Warren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in M. Gladys’ memory to a humane society of one’s choice or Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, 170 Pleasant St., Rockland, ME 04841. Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
