PRESQUE ISLE – Jerry L. Tompkins, 61, died Saturday night, Nov. 29, 2008, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1946, in Caribou, the son of John and Hazel (Nicholson) Tompkins. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked construction for G.S. Bonville and Delmont Wood & Sons, and drove tanker truck for Ferris Oil Co. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marlene (Sturgeon) Tompkins of Presque Isle; a son, Kevin Tompkins and his wife, Holly, and their children, Avery and Sadie Tompkins, all of Presque Isle; a brother-in-law, Bruce Sturgeon and his wife, Marcia, and their children, Travis and Megan Sturgeon, all of Mapleton; a special nephew, Rick Michaud and his wife, Sheila, of Crouseville; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Jeffrey W. Tompkins; four brothers and one sister. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. James Ackerson officiating. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery.
