BANGOR and SKOWHEGAN – Jody Lee Burton, 72, died Dec. 2, 2008, at a Skowhegan Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born April 13, 1936, in Hancock, daughter of Frank and Lena (Stewart) White. Jody was a graduate of Sumner High School and attended Bangor Community College. She had been employed in banking in Bangor and also held a real estate broker’s license. She attended Columbia Street Baptist Church and in more recent years, Jody had been a strong advocate for the mentally ill. She enjoyed the arts and was a music enthusiast who enjoyed playing the piano, guitar and other musical instruments. Jody will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Purcell and her husband, Joel, of Mena, Ark., and Terry Gallagher; and one grandson, Matthew Gallagher, both of Holden; two sisters, Norma Kelly of Florida and Jessie MacGregor of Hancock; a special niece, Jane Clancey; other nieces and nephews; a significant gentleman in her life, Norman Burton of Orrington. A funeral service will be held noon Thursday, Dec. 4, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Peter Sprague, pastor of Columbia Street Baptist Church of Bangor, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 11 a.m. until the time of service Thursday. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Hancock.
