ADDISON – Philip Dobbins, 69, passed away Nov. 23, 2008, with his wife and friends by his side, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 14, 1939, in Calais, the son of the late Advah and Leah (Rowe) Dobbins. Philip was a graduate of Addison High School and after graduation, he worked for Cutler Naval Base and then went on to join the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring after 20 years of service with rank of boatswain mate first class. He then moved back to Indian River, a place he dearly loved. Philip spent many years driving bait trucks, and for the last 19 years he drove for his friends, Joel Strout and Kevin Lovejoy. He also lobster fished in his little boat with his beloved grandsons by his side. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Beatrice (Kinghorn) Dobbins, he is survived by a sister, Sylvia Alley of Addison; a stepdaughter, Lori Phinney and husband, David; two grandsons, Michael and Garrett Lutz, all of Arizona; and sister-in-laws, Bernice Look of Addison and Alice Porter and husband, Arthur, of Cutler. Philip was predeceased by two sisters, Jackie Donovan and Charlotte Carroll. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends who visited or called daily. At his request, there will be no funeral. Friends can visit with the family 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Addison Town Hall, 334 Water St., Addison.
