NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. – Shirlee M. Folsom, 79, passed away Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 2008. She was born May 5, 1929, in Augusta, the daughter of Stanley Ellsworth Griffin and Lucille (Hall) Griffin. Shirlee attended Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School in 1947. She was employed by American Optical and New England Telephone & Telegraph, before her marriage in 1952 to William F. Folsom. In 1953 she and her new husband moved to Orono. She taught Sunday school at Orono Methodist Church. In 1961 they moved to Gorham. She was a member of Gorham Country Club, where she enjoyed golf and bowling. She was employed for many years as chief records technician at Center for Research and Advanced Study at the University of Southern Maine, Portland. In 1987 she and her husband retired and moved to their new home at Del Tura Country Club, North Fort Myers, Fla. She enjoyed golf, pool, walking, tap dancing, cards and luncheons with “the girls.” Shirlee is survived by her husband of 56 years, William F. Folsom of North Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Lois C. Ozias of Jefferson; two sons, Mark William Folsom of Westbrook and Jonathan Scott Folsom of Bangor; two granddaughters, Danielle K. R. Folsom of Cumberland Center and Jennifer Leigh Folsom of Bangor; as well as two grandsons, William Mark Folsom of Westbrook and Christopher William Folsom of Bangor. Interment will be in the spring in the family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirlee’s name may be made to Hope Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by National Cremation Society, North Fort Myers, Fla.
