CLIFTON – David Knowlton Kerns Sr., 55, died Dec. 3, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 31, 1953, in Blue Hill, son of Elliot P. and Wilda (Frost) Kerns. David had been employed by Peasley & O’Halloran Construction of Otis. He served as a selectman for the town of Clifton and was a member of Clifton Baptist Church. David was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending summers at their camp on Molasses Pond. He had a very special place in his heart for his pets. Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Bragg) Kerns of Clifton; and three children, Kim Kerns of Davenport, Fla., David Kerns Jr. and his wife, Erin, of Ellsworth, and Kristy Kerns of Clifton. He was the proud “Papa” of his grandson, Dylan Kerns of Ellsworth. Also surviving are his mother, Wilda Kerns of Hampden; three sisters, Karen Hicks of Brewer, Cheryl Lare and her husband, Ron, of Hampden, and Debbie LaFlamme and her husband, Russell, of Lisbon; two brothers, Gary Kerns and his wife, Jeanne, of Topsham, and Stephen Kerns and his wife, Terry, of Colorado; special mother-in-law, Mary Bragg of Clifton; several nieces, nephews and a large extended family. David was predeceased by his father, the Rev. Elliot Kerns, in January 2008. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at Clifton United Baptist Church with Pastor John Walsh and David’s brother-in-law, Pastor Russell LaFlamme officiating.
