ELLSWORTH – Henry L. Whitmore Sr., 76, husband of the late Marjorie Whitmore, died unexpectedly Dec. 2, 2008, at Togus VA Hospital. He was born Feb. 6, 1932, in Plantation 8, the son of Austin and Leah Whitmore. As a Korean War veteran, he loved to fly and belonged to C.A.P. and the American Legion. He was also a Shriner. He is survived by daughters, Pauline and Joe Mellow of Connecticut and Joyce and Rick Nielsen of Trenton; sons, Henry Whitmore Jr. of Trenton and Harold Whitmore of Hancock; grandchildren, Joe Mellow of Connecticut, Kathy Gray of Trenton, Bobbi and James Burnside of Germany, Henry III and Christy Whitmore of Surry, Brittnay Whitmore of Surry, Jessica of Hancock and Hanka Whitmore of Hancock; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie and Bob Cumby of Florida and Ida and Gary Sommers of Hancock; and brothers, Eugene and Lucy Whitmore of Hancock and Robert Whitmore of Union. A graveside service will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Birch Grove Cemetery, West Ellsworth.
