WESTON – Philip W. Foss Jr., 75, died Dec. 13, 2008, at Houlton Regional Hospital. He was born Nov. 12, 1933, to Philip W. Foss Sr. and Kathryn (Kline) Foss. He graduated from Danforth High School and attended the University of Maine, Orono, before entering the Air Force in 1953. He married Shirley E. Richard, Aug. 24, 1957, and throughout the next 51 years, they raised six children. Philip started his own business in 1960 and this grew into what is now known as Foss & Son, Inc. and Fosco, Inc., which is now run by his sons. He was a member of the Masons and Anah Temple Shiners, as well as the Elks Lodge, Houlton. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley; their children, Joel P. Foss, Diane Foss and her husband, Trent, Karen Cheetham and her husband, Michael, James B. Foss, Patrick W. Foss and his wife, Mariam, and John C. Foss; his grandchildren, Steven Hovey, Justin and Ariel Foss, Matthew Cheetham, Phoebe and Gabriel Foss, John Jr., Brendan and Jonah Foss; and his sister, Rita Foss Church and her children, Vicki and Kyle. Visiting hours will be held 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Clay Funeral Home, Bartlett Chapel, Danforth, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15.
