CORINTH and CHARLESTON – Ethel M. Strout, 84, wife of the late Norman E. Strout, died Dec. 15, 2008, in Dover-Foxcroft, after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Charleston, the daughter of Thomas and Bernina (Sowers) McGray. She was a longtime resident of Charleston and had resided the last 10 months at Pleasant Meadows, Dover-Foxcroft. She was a member of United Baptist Church of Charleston. She was a life member and past matron of Silver Leaf Chapter of Charleston and Aldworth Chapter of Milo, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a former district deputy grand matron. She was a member of Rural Carriers Ladies Auxiliary and Tri-Town Club. She is survived by a son, Gary Strout and his wife, Cheryl, of Corinth; two daughters, Andrea Hichborn of Florida, and Shelley Brasslett and her husband, Adrian, of Bradford; a sister, Geraldine Bean of Corinth; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Ethel was predeceased by a daughter, Norma Jeanne; and sisters, Lyna Sherman, Alta Newman, Dorothy Tilton, twin Edith Tilton, Effie Prestridge, Regina Perkins and Leona Hichborn; and a brother, Leslie McGray. The family thanks the staff of Pleasant Meadows, especially Laurie “Debbie,” Kendra, Heather, Stacy, Noreen, Shawna and Kelley, who was with her at Mayo, and her roommate and friend, Betty. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, with an Eastern Star memorial service to be conducted 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Messana officiating. Burial will be at Puddledock Cemetery, Charleston.
