GLENBURN – Peter Edward Cookson, 65, went to be with his parents and his sister in his heavenly home Dec. 13, 2008. Peter was born Sept. 24, 1943, in Bangor, son of the late Leo D. and Mildred H. (James) Cookson. Peter graduated from Brewer High School in 1962. On June 15, 1963, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jo Carol Jones, in Bangor. Peter and Jo celebrated 45 wonderful years of marriage in June of this year. Peter enjoyed a tremendous love of life and family. He will forever be remembered for his uncanny sense of humor, his remarkable wisdom, and amazing strength and courage in the face of tremendous adversity. He was a source of great inspiration to all who knew him. The legacy he leaves to this world are his three children, who all share a great awareness of the lessons he shared with them. Surviving in addition to his wife, Jo, are his three children, twin daughters, Debra (Cookson) Gunn and her husband, Joseph, of Holden and Barbara Cookson and her “other significant,” Luc Dionne, of Hermon; and son, Peter D. Cookson of Augusta. Peter is also survived by a sister, Cathleen Cookson of Hermon; a brother, Leo D. Cookson Jr. of Brewer; nephew, Scott A. Cookson of Winterport, who Peter loved as his own son; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter also leaves lifelong friends, Tony MacDonald and his wife, Bernice, of Clifton. Special friends to Peter included Al Belanger Jr. and Burnham Matthews, both of Glenburn, Steve Philbrick of Bangor and Scott A. Pierz of China. A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at a later date. Those who wish may make a donation in his memory to the Kidney Foundation of Maine. A special thanks to “Gus,” whoever you were, for the gift of 18 very special years.
