BANGOR – Harold E. Hansen, 78, husband of the late Mavorite (McLellan) Hansen, died Dec. 20, 2008, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor, after a courageous battle with M.D.S. He was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of Harold and Sena (VandenElst) Hansen. Harold left home at age 17 and joined the U.S. Air Force. He had many assignments during his service years, including the Korean War. He graduated from Husson College in 1961 with a degree in business administration. His proud work history included Knight Auto Sales, Bangor Theological Seminary, Dead River Co., Husson College, Thrifty and most recently, assistant controller for Bangor Hydro Co., from which he retired in 1995. Harold treasured being a member of First United Methodist Church and the Korean War Veterans. He was a dedicated troop greeter and former member of the board of Ronald McDonald House. Harold was also a member of St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 83 AF & AM, Bangor; Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor and Maine Consistory 32 degree. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Marie and Mark Hankinson of Winterport; his son and his significant other, Brian Hansen and Dianne Rice of Dedham; his very good friend, Rheta Jameson of Bangor; one sister, Geraldine Barnum of Texas; two brothers, Robert Hansen and his wife, Shirley, of Utah and James Hansen and his wife, Emma, of Michigan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Hansen. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a Masonic service will be held 6:30 p.m. by the officers and members of St. Andrews Lodge, Bangor. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at First United Methodist Church, Essex Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Randall C. Chretien, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church family room immediately after the service.
