PORTLAND, Maine — A new government report says Maine workers earned 4.1 percent more last year than they did in 2006. But the rise was smaller than the national figure of 5.2 percent.

The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis says Maine workers received $2.7 billion in total compensation last year, up from $26.6 billion in 2006. The growth rates ranged from 7.5 percent in Sagadahoc County to a low of 1.5 percent in Franklin County.

The chairman of Maine’s Economic Forecasting Committee, Charles Colgan, says the statewide figures aren’t surprising because Maine typically lags behind the nation as a whole in compensation.
