MILBRIDGE – James “Jake” P. Leighton, 79, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 22, 2008, at his home. He was born April 2, 1929, in Cherryfield, the son of the late Harry and Marian (Robbins) Leighton. Jake will be remembered as a hard worker. He spent most of his life working as a woodsman and in later years he worked in construction. Jake is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jackie Leighton; a daughter, Jeanne Leighton of Eddington; grandchildren, Amy Taylor and husband, Roger, James Leighton and wife, Jessica, and Richard Leighton, all of Milbridge; daughter-in-law, Marie Leighton of Milbridge; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Joseph, Isaac, Madison, Michael and James Jr.; siblings, Charlotte Shai of Massachusetts, Carroll Leighton and wife, Betty, of Glenburn, and Myron Leighton and wife, Betty, of Cherryfield; many nieces and nephews, and several special friends. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Leighton; three sisters and six brothers. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge, with Pastor Owen Beal officiating.
