BREWER and JONESPORT John Raynor Hopkins, 98, passed away Dec. 22, 2008, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Dedham. He was born July 17, 1910, in Manorville, Long Island, N.Y., to John B. Hopkins and Ione (Raynor) Hopkins. John lived in New York until the age of 21, at which time he visited his parents in Jonesport and decided to stay. He worked for various construction companies and was longtime supervisor for A.P. Wyman. John started his own construction business in the 50s, building hydro stations, and many projects for Bangor Hydro and the City of Bangor, until his retirement in the-mid 70s. John served on various boards, including the board of trustees of Ernst Manor and Pine Tree Society for Crippled Children. He had a great love for children and supported many children’s charities. One of his favorite places was Sandy River Beach, Jonesport, where he spent much of his retirement lobstering, and entertaining family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Minerva P. (Look) Hopkins. John is survived by his daughter, Patricia Miller and her husband, Paul; granddaughters, Lynne Saucier and her husband, Jim, and Beth Miller-Drake; grandson, John Miller and his wife, Erika; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Reilly, Sayde, Colby, Jaycob, Baylee, and Jonathon and his family; two brothers, Hugh W. Hopkins and William B. Hopkins and his wife, Gloria; and numerous cousins. Special thanks to Blake and Delores Thibodeau for their kindness and loving care, and to everyone who made the journey with us. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Dedham Congregational Church with the Rev. Dana Douglas officiating. Graveside services will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport, with the Rev. Eric Kelly.
