MACHIAS – Marian “Mamie” (Schoppee) Coffin, 92, wife of the late Donald Coffin, passed away Dec. 22, 2008, after a brief illness at Downeast Community Hospital. She was born April 19, 1916, in Machias, the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Cutter) Schoppee. Mamie graduated from Machias High School in 1934. She married Donald Coffin, in 1939. Together they owned Coffin’s Western Auto for several years. Mamie was a member of Centre Street Congregational Church and belonged to the church guild and craft group. She had lived the past three years with her daughter and son-in-law. Mamie loved watching the many deer in the back yard and enjoyed taking her daily walks. At 92, she was very proud to be able to do so. Mamie is survived by her son, Gregory Coffin and wife, Marcia, of Marshfield; daughters, Ann (Coffin) Gaynor and husband, Michel, of Oregon, and Joann (Coffin) Upton and husband, Cony, of Machias; grandchildren, Matthew Coffin and wife, Natasha, of Los Angeles, Andrea Coffin of Philadelphia, Aaron Coffin and wife, Jillian, of Newburyport, Mass., Michel Gaynor III and wife, Heather, JoAnn McEacharn and husband, Nathan, all of Oregon, and Benjamin Upton of Machias; great-grandchildren, Orchid Coffin and Sevilla Coffin, Brandon and Christopher Gaynor, and Evan and Carson McEacharn; a sister, Margaret Hayward of Machias; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by an infant daughter; sisters, Frances Thompson, Helen MacManus, Laura Mallar and Gertrude Gould; and brothers, Fred Schoppee Jr. and Richard Schoppee.
