FALMOUTH – Geraldine “Gerry” B. Fraser, 85, of 32 Payson Road, passed away peacefully Dec. 19, 2008, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough. She was born May 2, 1923, in Millinocket, the daughter of Harry R. and Nola A. Sargent Boynton. She attended Millinocket schools, graduating with honors from Stearns High in 1941, where she excelled in basketball as captain of the 1940 team and high scorer on the 1939, 1940 and 1941 teams. Thereafter she remained active in swimming, diving, ice skating, hiking and golf. She was a natural athlete. On Jan. 29, 1943, at Camp Carson, Colo., she married 2nd Lt. Ronald F. Fraser and together they journeyed for almost 66 years in the army and retirement, serving or traveling in England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Luxembourg, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Sicily, Switzerland and Monaco, as well as Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Malaysia, Katmandu, Nepal, Taiwan, the Philippines, India, Burma and Army posts in the continental U.S. A remarkable and talented woman, she possessed unusual gifts in homecare, arrangement of furniture, design, repair, blending of colors and general enhancement of a home inside and out, while at the same time being an accomplished seamstress, a gourmet cook and a peerless housekeeper. Her many friends lovingly and jokingly often referred to her as “Miss Perfect.” She loved dancing and was very good at it, music, singing, reading, poetry, theater, concerts, the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, University of Connecticut girl’s basketball and annual trips to Prince Edward Island. The core of her existence was her love of home, family and friends. She believed that love was and is the greatest commandment. She is survived by her husband, Col. Ronald F. Fraser, U.S. Army, retired; son, Michael and grandson, Wolfgang, of Girdwood, Alaska; daughter, Mary Nola of Falmouth; a sister, Olive Pound of Augusta; two brothers, Dr. Harold Boynton and wife, Alice, and Robert Boynton, all of Millinocket; a sister-in-law, Mary Boynton of Raymond; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Mildred and husband, Charles Bears, and Ella Jane and husband, George “Gid” Bears; a sister-in-law, Fredricka Boynton; a brother, Arnold and wife, Ida, all of Millinocket; and a brother, Dr. Richard Boynton of Raymond. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Millinocket. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerry’s memory to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
