LIMESTONE and FORT FAIRFIELD – Owen K. Grass, 91, husband of Mrs. Pauline E. (Sears) Grass, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Dec. 24, 2008, at a Caribou nursing facility. He was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Limestone, the son of Clarence and Edith (Williard) Grass. Owen was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1935, where he excelled in basketball. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps, attaining the rank of second lieutenant. Owen was employed as an electrician by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for many years. In addition to his parents, Owen was predeceased by one daughter, Wendy J. Burns; two sons, Gregory K. Grass and Dale N. Grass; five brothers, Raymond, Howard, Leon, Austin and Maynard Grass; and four sisters, Angie Doody, Viora Reed, Muriel Ward and Aura Grass. He is survived by his wife, Pauline of Fort Fairfield; three sons, Larry O. Grass of Fort Fairfield, Jim F. Grass and his wife, Sharon, of Presque Isle and Nick B. Grass and his wife, Karen, of Fort Fairfield; nine grandchildren, Jason LaCroix of Fort Fairfield, Kelly Canney of Presque Isle, Matthew Grass of Caswell, Katelyn, Cassidy and Nathan Godin, all of Fort Fairfield, Amiee Saucier of Presque Isle, Rachel Burns of Long Island, N.Y., and Courtney Burns of Belfast; four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. The family of Mr. Grass extends a special thank you to the Maine Veterans’ Home, Caribou, for the outstanding care provided to Owen during his stay there. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A graveside service will be conducted in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Grass to Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769 or the Maine Veterans’ Home, 169 Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME 04736.
