MOUNT DESERT – Gilmore “Gil” E. Stanley, 72, died Dec. 20, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1936, in North Sullivan, the son of Harvey M. and Grace B. (Langill) Stanley. Gil served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. After retiring he was the cook at Unity College for three years and for the past 33 years he had worked as a cook at Abel’s Lobster Pound. Gil enjoyed dancing and socializing with his friends. He is survived by his son, Paul Stanley of Jacksonville, Fla.; his daughter, Deborah Windle of St. Mary’s, Ga.; four brothers, Malcolm Stanley and wife, Lucy, Langill Stanley, Winston Stanley and Ted Stanley, all of Mount Desert; one sister, Delores Walls and her husband, William, of Mount Desert; three grandchildren, Don, Britney and Terry; one great-grandson, Calob; many nieces and nephews.
