CHERRYFIELD – Senior Chief Machinery Technician Ronald V. Upton, 62, died Dec. 22, 2008. Ron “Vern” was born June 6, 1946, in North Head, Grand Manan, New Brunswick, son of Percy G. and Nellie (Weaver) Upton. He moved to Eastport in 1959, where he attended Shead Memorial High School. In 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired in 1985 after 20 years of service to his country. After his retirement, he worked at several local area businesses. He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Brown) Upton of Cherryfield; sons, Ron Jr. and wife, Ana, of Yorktown, Va., Jarrod of Newport News, Va., and Joshua of Hampton, Va.; and two very special grandsons, Brody and Milo Upton. He is also survived by a brother, Russell Upton and wife, Joyce, of Stittsville, Ontario; sisters, Lorraine Ingalls of Oshawa, Ontario, and Dawn Frankland and husband, Burton, of Whitehead, New Brunswick; a stepbrother, Clark Sherman and wife, Susan, of Bingham; two brothers-in-law, Larry Brown and family, and Michael Brown and family, both of Cherryfield; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Cherryfield Elementary School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cherryfield – Narraguagus Historical Society, P.O. Box 96, Cherryfield, ME 04622 or Cherryfield Free Public Library, 35 Main St., Cherryfield, ME 04622. Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
