EAST MACHIAS – Irma Rowena Vose, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2008. She was a shining light to all who knew her and was a blessing to everyone she came into contact with. Most of all, she was a loving and godly mother. She was born July 17, 1920, daughter of the late Arnold and Lyler (Ingalls) Roberts. All her life she enjoyed serving her Lord, first at Immanuel Baptist Church, East Machias, as a Sunday school teacher and pianist, and later at Machias Valley Baptist Church. She also faithfully helped with Child Evangelism Fellowship for many years. Irma gave piano lessons to many local children, was a nurse’s aide at Marshall Manor and was on the nursing staff at Down East Community Hospital. Irma was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Virginia Conard and her husband, Ed, of Wilmington, Del., Donald Vose and his wife, Linda, of Whiting and Mary Payson and her husband, Andy, of Union; grandchildren, Stephanie (Conard) Vess and husband, Bob, Tommy Conard, Chuck Vose and wife, Heather, Emily (Payson) Cheesman and husband, Aaron, and Matt Payson; great-grandchildren, Sean and Melissa Vess, Zachary, William and Luke Cheesman, Joshua, Micah and her special great-granddaughter, Rachel Vose, who brightened all her days; a devoted niece, Ginny Dennison; several nieces and nephews. Irma was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Clayton; a granddaughter, Suzanne Leslie Conard; four sisters and one brother. The family especially thanks the devoted nursing staff at Marshall Health Care and Rehab for the exceptional, loving care they gave to Irma in the last two years of her life. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Jacksonville Cemetery with Al Nehrings officiating. Friends are invited to a time of fellowship and refreshments after the service at the Inn at Schoppee Farm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Machias Valley Christian School, 6 Broadway, Machias, ME 04654, where her two great-grandsons, Joshua and Micah, attend. Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias. www.bragdonkelley.com
