BLAINE – Joel Green, loving son of Lois Belyea, the late Willie Green and the late Phil Belyea, lost his brave battle with cancer Dec. 8, 2008, at Aroostook Medical Center, Mars Hill. He fought long and hard with never a complaint. He was an inspiration to all. Joel was born Dec. 31, 1953, in Mars Hill. As a young man he loved fishing and the outdoors. He joined the U.S. Navy as his father before him. He loved traveling and had the opportunity to see most of the United States and Mexico. He worked on the oilrigs in the Gulf of Mexico. He met and married Selena Tracey. They had one son, William Shane Green. Moving to Florida, he spent the last 25 years in Key West, Fla., in construction, as a professional painter and carpenter. He was a perfectionist and had numerous talents. He was a fantastic cook and did so in several restaurants. He developed a love for flowers and plants while working in a nursery and spending countless hours in his own vegetable garden. In addition, he took great pride in manicuring his lawn and mowed it daily. One of his greatest pleasures was sitting in front of his Franklin Fireplace enjoying a crackling fire with his buddy, “Lumpy,” his cat. Joel never met a stranger, he made many friends along his journey. He had a wonderful spirit, loved people and liked nothing better than to make them laugh. He was very kind and leaves a loving family and faithful caring friend, Dan Lavasseur. He is survived by his son, William Shane Green of Deville, La.; his mother, Lois Belyea of Blaine; four sisters, Charlotte Fruciano and her husband, Joseph, of Lexington, Mass., Barbara Winne and her husband, Jonathan, of Elkhart, Ind., Julianna Boyd and her husband, Jay, of Mars Hill and Kelly Garrison and her husband, Steve, of Mars Hill; one brother, Benjamin Belyea and his wife, Cindy, of Winterport; one stepbrother, Gary Belyea of Blaine; one stepsister, Susan Kinney and her husband, Arnold, of Blaine; his Aunt Rite Benjamin of South Carolina, Aunt Audrey Green of Houlton, Aunt Marion Miller of Mars Hill; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
