INDIAN TOWNSHIP – Lester E. Purdy, 69, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at his home. Lester was born March 13, 1939, in Indian Township, son of the late Edward and Kathleen (Socoby) Purdy. He attended Bangor Community College and was an avid basketball fan. Lester was a friend of Bill W. for 25 years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, George Purdy; and a niece, Georgia Purdy. Surviving are his sister, Hazel Brown of Lewiston; his nieces and nephews, Lee Brown of Mechanic Falls, Jessica, Ed, Rita, Mary Purdy and Tonia Ackley; great-nieces and great-nephews, Monica, Heather, Cheyanne, Angelita, Marissa, Timothy and Donovan; his sister-in-law, Judy Purdy, who was a great help to him; and his canine companion, Chucky. Visiting hours will begin 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, until 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Meal Site, Indian Township. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann Mission, Peter Dana Point, by Father Frank Morin. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport.
