BELFAST – Patricia A. Healey-Thompson, 76, died Dec. 25, 2008, at Waldo County General Hospital, Belfast. She was born Dec. 11, 1932, in Mount Vernon, N.Y., daughter of James and Anne (Norton) Healey. She graduated from College of Mount St. Vincent, New York City, with a Bachelor of Science in 1954 and then went on to St. Michael’s College, Winooski, Vt., to receive her Master of Education in 1962. She did her post-graduate study at Pratt Institute, University of Vermont, St. Thomas College, Harvard, Davis & Elkins College, the University of Massachusetts and the University of Maine. Pat was a dedicated educator for more than 40 years and was awarded Teacher of the Year in Burlington, Vt. After working as a science teacher and director of guidance in New York and Vermont, and locally at Belfast Area High School and Mount View High School, Pat retired in 1994. Pat was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honorary society for teachers. She served as state president and first vice president in the Alpha Psi State Chapter and was recipient of their achievement award in 1998 for outstanding leadership in all levels of society. She was a member, past president and vice president of the local Epsilon Chapter. She excellently and graciously filled all her duties, working tirelessly at all levels of Delta Kappa Gamma. Pat was a resident of Belfast for 38 years. She was dedicated to her family, was a communicant at St. Francis of Assisi RC Church and an avid reader. Pat was an active board member and volunteer in many community service groups, including but not limited to the Deborah Lincoln House, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Camden Community School, Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, Children’s Aid Society of Maine and Midcoast Mental Health, the Teachers Association, the Guidance Association and American Field Service. She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, J. Douglas Thompson. Pat is survived by her sister, Marilyn Shupe of Middletown, N.Y.; brother, Jerry Healey and wife, Janet, of Lexington, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, the Ross family, Georgene and Dickie Coombs, and Sharon Romanow. A memorial Mass will be held in early summer 2009 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
