EAST MILLINOCKET – Martin J. Gagne, 88, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born Dec. 21, 1921, in St. Zacharie, Quebec, the son of George J. and Philomene M. (Gosselin) Gagne. Martin was a hardworking man his entire life. He began working in the woods at the age of 13, and worked in the woods as a lumberjack at various lumbering camps until he was 50 years old, at which time, he went to work for Great Northern Paper Co., at the East Millinocket mill. Martin retired from Great Northern in 1987. He was also a talented carpenter, and built many houses in Canada and East Millinocket. Martin will be remembered for these qualities, but especially as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Albertine M. (Parent) Gagne of East Millinocket; three children, Joseph Gagne and his wife, Anna, of Millinocket, Lynn Noiles and her husband, George, of Fairfield, and Therese Deveau and her husband, Michael, of East Millinocket; five grandchildren, Scott Gagne, Julie Brussard and her husband, John, Steven Deveau, Erica and Nicholas Noiles; five great-grandchildren, Aaron Gagne, and Casey, Chloe, Jacklyn and Jesselle Brussard; three sisters, Sister Therese Gagne of Quebec City, Edwidge Giguere and her husband, Eddy, and Helene Gagne, all of St. Marie, Quebec; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Martin was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider. Spring interment will be at East Millinocket Cemetery.
