MILBRIDGE and HARRINGTON – Arnold L. Hammond, 80, of Milbridge, formerly of Harrington, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at an Ellsworth health care facility. He was born July 22, 1928, in Harrington, son of the late Charles H. and Marjorie B. (Dorr) Hammond. Mr. Hammond worked for more than 30 years at Jasper Wyman, working at the loading docks. He also was a laborer; working at a bottle redemption center, raking blueberries and canning sardines. Upon retirement, he enjoyed mowing lawns around Harrington. Known as the “social butterfly,” he would visit locals after mowing their lawn and enjoy sharing a meal with them. He was a member of Harrington Baptist Church for many years. Family members include his siblings, George Hammond and his wife, Bea, Francis “Father” Hammond and his wife, Betty “Lovey,” Wayne Hammond and wife, Alice, all of Harrington, and Eloise Look and her husband, Doug, of Bangor and Texas; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his church family and residents, and staff at Narraguagus Bay Healthcare Facility. He was predeceased by two brothers, Elijah Ham-mond and Bernard Hammond. Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, with Pastor Danny Davis officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family 11 a.m. until the hour of the service Monday. Private burial will be after at Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington.
