NEWBURGH and HERMON Harry E. Hoskins, 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness. He was born July 10, 1926, in Bangor, the son of J. Edward and Violet (Tibbetts) Hoskins. Harry was raised in Hermon where he attended a one-room schoolhouse. It was well known as a treasured memory throughout his family that Harry’s beloved dog would pull him to school and back home on a sled just so he wouldn’t miss school after a broken leg injury. Harry continued his high school education at Bangor High School, where graduating from the Class of 1944 was interrupted by serving in the U.S. Army with the 360 Field Artillery Battalion 95 Infantry Division in World War II. He later worked in the auto body industry for a number of years at local car dealerships. Harry’s great pride in the business led him to opening his own shop. He then took his career to yet another level as an independent damage appraiser for 10 years. Harry also worked as a damage appraiser for Crawford and Co., and as an adjuster for Maine Bonding and Casualty Co. Prior to his retirement, Harry was an auto body instructor at South Penobscot Vocational School. He loved his motor home and camping was a special thing to do. Harry raised gardens and shared his produce and pickles with friends. Harry is survived and will be sadly missed by his beloved companion of 31 years, Marilyn Campbell of Newburgh; son, Scott E. Hoskins and his wife, Sandra, of Bucksport; grandson, Joshua Hoskins and his wife, Valorie, of El Paso, Texas; granddaughter, Ashley Hoskins of Orono; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Marie; many cousins, nieces and nephews; Marilyn’s son, Michael Campbell; former wife, Kay Dresser; and many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Littlefield; a brother, Frank Hoskins; half sisters, Cleora Ashford and Patricia (Ashford) Bond; and half brother, Lloyd Ashford. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Marston Cemetery, Orrington. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
