BANGOR – Robert Thomas Cormier, 58, has gone to be with his Lord and Savior he loved so. He passed away Dec. 31, 2008, at a Bangor nursing home. Born July 5, 1950, in Caribou, Robert was the second of 11 children. Robert was a 1969 honor graduate of Bangor High School and a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from Ricker College with honors in 1973, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics. As a youth, Robert participated in the programs at Pine Tree Camp and was a camp councilor at Bangor Y Camp Prentiss. Though handicapped, Robert spent his life helping others. His decades long volunteering at Eastern Maine Medical Center and his sponsoring of several children through Children International, highlight some of his selfless acts. Robert worshiped at Worldwide Church of God, Bangor, and in everyday life. Robert was of sharp mind and keen intellect. He enjoyed music, reading and semantics. Robert was a lifetime reader of the Bible and sought to understand its true meaning and significance. Robert is survived by his parents, Annette J. Knowles of Ellsworth and Richard J. Cormier of Clifton; brothers, Richard D. Cormier of an unknown location, Raymond Cormier of Bangor, Ronald Cormier of Chicopee, Mass., and James Cormier of Sullivan; and sisters, Mary Dalton of Litchfield, N.H., Emma Leeman of Winterport, Janet Cormier of Bangor, Patricia Cornell of Okeechobee, Fla., Cathy Wilson of Orlando, Fla., and Virginia Pierce of Southwest Harbor. The family wishes to thank the staff at Ross Manor Nursing Home and Hospice of Eastern Maine for the care Robert was given in his final days. Burial will be private.
