STETSON – William P. Kells, 82, passed away peacefully Jan. 1, 2009, at home. He was born April 19, 1926, in Greenfield, Mass., a son of John and Bertha (Scruton) Kells. He attended schools in Greenfield and was a veteran of World War II, earning an infantry combat badge. Bill worked as a machinist for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, Hartford, Conn. He enjoyed music and his family and friends who will miss hearing him sing old time favorites. His love of animals, gardening and living off the land brought him to Maine in the early 1960s. Bill served on several panels for the Maine superior and supreme courts. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, John, Thomas, Edward and Bernard. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred E. (Cromack) Kells of Stetson; a son, Paul and wife, Deborah, of Corinna; daughter, Pamela of Orange, Mass.; six grandchildren, Holly Todd and fianc?, Steve Statrowsky, Karrie Bemis and husband, Allen, Kimberly Todd-Thurber and fiance, Justin Payette, Tami, Paul Jr. and Caley Kells; four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Brandon Bemis, Brianna Todd-Thurber and Nola Payette; a brother, Richard of Greenfield, Mass.; sister, Mary Bonnette of Turners Falls, Mass.; several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family thanks the day care unit staff at Sebasticook Valley Hospital for their kindness and care. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. A graveside funeral and committal service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Stetson.
