ST. AGATHA – Rene Lizotte, 82, passed away peacefully Jan. 2, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at a Fort Kent hospital, after a courageous battle with lymphoma. He was born March 19, 1926, in St. David, son of the late Aimee and Euphemie (Bosse) Lizotte. He served in the U.S. Army, being drafted in July 1944 with the 41st Infantry Division in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He saw combat in the Philippines, New Guinea and in the occupation of Japan. He was discharged in June 1946. For his service he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of Frenchville American Legion Post No. 145 and Lozier-O’Grady VFW Post No. 9609, Fort Kent. He was a 45-year member of Knights of Columbus, having received the fourth degree of the Order; he was a member at Madawaska for 17 years and had been a member at St. Agatha since 1981. He retired from Sinclair Volunteer Fire Department after 37 years, five of those as fire chief. He was Postmaster in Sinclair for 30 years and self-employed as a barber for 50 years. He loved family reunions, social gatherings and traveling with his wife to Connecticut, Florida, Washington, D.C., Las Vegas and Hawaii. He took pleasure in playing cribbage and poker with family and friends. He took pride in his vegetable garden and stocking trout in a private pond. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Basket-weaving and presenting baskets to his daughters and grandchildren became a favorite pastime of his. Rene will be dearly missed by his loving family, relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rena (Chamberland) Lizotte, to whom he was devoted; also four daughters, Carol Derosier and her husband, Richard “Dick” and Mary Ann Chamberlain and her husband, Rickie, of St. Agatha, Jeannine Michaud and her husband, Kenneth, of Frenchville and Susan Duval and her husband, Phil, of Fort Kent. He is survived by eight grandchildren, Lisa Derosier and her special friend, Shawn Pelletier, Stacie Couture and her special friend, Jeff Linscott, Becky and her husband, Ryan Pelletier, Monica Chamberlain and her special friend, Dave Guerrette, Jennifer and her husband, Jason Daigle, Craig Michaud and his wife, Amy, Travis Duval and his fianc?e, Kristal Sirois, and Jason Duval and special friend, Tasha Elsemore. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Brandon and Trevor Couture, Reece and Logan Pelletier and Kelsie Daigle. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Regina and Azilda; two brothers, Lionel and Ned; and one loving daughter, Verna. Family and friends may attend his viewing 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday until time of services at Michaud Funeral Home, St. Agatha. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Jan. 6 at Our Lady of the Valley Church, St. Agatha, with the Rev. Phil Cyr officiating. Committal services will be held in the spring at Lower Cemetery, St. Agatha. For those of you who desire, donations may be made in Rene’s name to Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund, Visiting Nurses of Aroostook, Hospice of Aroostook or a charity of one’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
