BANGOR – Shirley B. Soares, 61, died unexpectedly Jan. 2, 2009, at her home. She was born Aug. 28, 1947, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Andrew “Don” and Hilda (Mitchell) Berry. Shirley graduated from Hartford School of Nursing in 1968. Shirley was a registered nurse and certified occupational health nurse. She is survived by her mother of Southwest Harbor; one son, Michael Soares and his wife, Michelle, of York; two daughters, Kristina and her husband, Robert Stuber, of St. Louis, and Joanna and her husband, John Campbell, of Bangor; her sister and husband, Brenda and Thomas Lawson of Southwest Harbor; and her brother and his wife, Fred Berry and Susan of Ellsworth. Her memory will live on in her six grandchildren, Calvin, Benjamin, Olivia, Laurel, Maia and Drew. She was loved by many, including Francis Soares III, Susan Polyot, Bill and Pam Cohen, Kathy Thurneau and Liz Mills; several nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her father. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Rabbi Darah R. Lerner officiating.
