ORRINGTON, Maine — Three people were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center just after noon on Tuesday after the vehicle they were in crashed into a tree on the Dow Road, Fire Chief Mike Spencer said.

“This is a bad one,” he said.

A young female was driving the car, and she had two male passengers, he said. All three were transported to the Bangor hospital, and the condition of one of the injured is serious enough that it “could be” fatal, Spencer added.

The three were in a gray 1991 Subaru Loyale that was heading north when the crash occurred near 60 Dow Road. Local firefighters used extrication equipment to open the doors to get the three out of the car, which had no air bags, Spencer said.

Orrington Deputy Bill Gardner, who is handling the crash investigation, was at the hospital and didn’t immediately return calls for additional information.

“They hit that tree hard,” Spencer said. “The back license plate was literally in the driver’s seat.”

The Subaru is registered to Orrington resident Eric Shaw, who was seen at the crash scene picking up debris, and his son is reportedly one of the passengers injured.
