NEW GLOUCESTER – Joseph Henri Guy Deschaines, 87, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at St. Mar-garet D’Youville Pavilion, Lewiston. Guy was born Jan. 2, 1922, in Keegan, son of Xavier and Alice (Thibodeau) Deschaines. He was married to Christa Diaz. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Auburn. Prior to his retirement he worked in the woods industry for his entire working career. Guy served in the Army during World War II and was featured in the article “Remembering a Band of Brothers” in the November 10-11, 2007, edition of the Bangor Daily News. Survivors include his wife of New Gloucester; a brother, Omer of Coventry, Conn.; a sister, Corinne Wade and husband, Franklin, of Greenfield, Mass.; eight half brothers and half sisters, Joseph Armand Deschaines and wife, Monique, of Dedham, Merilda Plourde and husband, David, of Madawaska, Martha Hammond and husband, Stephen, of Scarborough, Paul Deschaines and wife, Patty, of South Portland, Marianne Deschaines of North Carolina, James Deschaines and wife, Beverly, John Deschaines and wife, Lisa, and Armande Pelletier and husband, Reynold, all of Van Buren; very special sisters-in-law, Simone Deschaines of Lewiston, Noella Deschaines of Caribou and Pauline Deschaines of Connecticut; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Leopauldine Lapierre, in 1980; two sisters, Eva Martin and Lina Martin; and five brothers, Oswald, Gilbert, Adrien, Leo and Joseph Samuel.
