PRESQUE ISLE – Curtis H. Turner, 76, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born June 21, 1932, in Fairfield, Conn., the son of Edward J. and Arline D. (Hubbell) Turner. Curtis graduated high school and attended college. He then joined the National Guard and went into full active service when he joined the U.S. Air Force and served 28 years as a supply sergeant. For part of his career he was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He loved his career in the Air Force and was a member of DAV Chapter 10. He served on the board at Pregnancy Care Center and was very active at Baptist Park. Curtis was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Gardiner) Turner of Presque Isle; three brothers, Fred, Jack and Bion, all of Bridgeport, Conn.; three sisters, Betty Turner of Trumbull, Conn., Elva and her husband, John Wassing, of Bridgeport, Conn., and Nancy Rivera of Bridgeport, Conn.; a half sister, Virginia Tompkins of Bangor; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Marylou Hoffman and Alice Oros; and a brother, Edward Turner Jr. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. James Ackerson and the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Phelps officiating. Friends may call 11 a.m. until time of service. A reception will take place after the service in the church fellowship hall. A spring interment with military honors will take place at the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Caribou. Donations may be made in his memory to Baptist Park, P.O. Box 498, Mapleton, ME 04757.
