MILLINOCKET – John P. McCleary Sr., 83, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at a Millinocket health care facility. He was born March 17, 1925, in Millinocket, the son of John and Theresa (Pinette) McCleary. John worked for Great Northern Paper Co., for 46 years in many capacities, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He drew his greatest joy spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine G. (Gallant) McCleary of Millinocket; three children, John P. McCleary Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Simpsonville, S.C., Kathleen Day and her husband, Michael, of Bangor and James McCleary and his wife, Carol, of Presque Isle; a sister, Grace Brown and her husband, Phil, of Newport; a sister-in-law, Iola McCleary of Millinocket; eight grandchildren, Angela, Brian, Jeffrey, Andrew, Patrick, D.J., Cyle and Cayla; one great-granddaughter, Christine; many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by a brother, Bernard McCleary. The family would extends a special thank you to the caring and supportive staff at Katahdin Nursing Home for the kind and gentle care given to John in the past few months that he was a resident there. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby St., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider.
