PLYMOUTH and BANGOR – Patricia Garland Gray, RN, 82, went to abide with the Lord, Jan. 10, 2009. She was born, May 10, 1926, in Bangor, a daughter of Andrew B. and Zelma (White) Garland, the third of seven children. She graduated from Hermon High School and after graduation, entered Webber Hospital School of Nursing, Biddeford. Pat worked for 29 years at Eastern Maine Medical Center, retiring as the department head nurse of psychiatry in 1989. She then worked for five years as a mental health nurse for Kennebec Valley Regional Health Agency, retiring in 1994. She had spent winters in Florida and South Carolina to be close to her daughters and grandchildren. Pat also was a volunteer as an ombudsman representative. She was a member of West Hampden Baptist Church, serving on the Missions Committee. Pat was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Lawrence A. Garland and Andrew Garland Jr.; and a sister, Ethel Burgess. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Mary Jane Gray of Florida and Gary L. and Virginia B. Gray of Hermon; two daughters, Teresa J. Gray of Goose Creek, S.C., and Melissa Gray of Micanopy, Fla.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert S. Garland of Pittsfield; two sisters, Rosemary Gammell of Omaha, Neb., and Norma and husband, William Brill, of Arlington, Va.; many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a wide circle of friends. A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, with Pastor Charles Farley officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service. Spring burial will be at Pine Tree Cemetery, Hermon.
