LEVANT – Franklin Warren Rydstrom, 88, died peacefully Jan. 10, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born July 31, 1920, in Boston, the son of John and Angie A. (Lingham) Rydstrom. Franklin served his country in World War II in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Europe. He retired from the Christian Science Monitor, where he worked for 42 years as a machinist. He was an avid fan of the University of Maine Women’s Black Bear Basketball and attended many games. Franklin was a member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge, Boston. He was an avid fisherman and loved his time on and close to the ocean. More than anything, he adored his children and grandchildren. There are many fond memories of being there for horseback riding lessons and sledding during the winter. Franklin was predeceased by his wife, Anna, in 1998. He is survived by a son, Harris Rydstrom and companion, Louise Call, of Orono; a daughter, Ruth Cote and companion, Bill McKenna, of Levant; a sister, Althea Curfman of Sun City West, Ariz.; and two loved grandchildren, Joshua and Ashley Cote. A service of remembrance will be held 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Pastor Charles Langbein officiating.
