LEE – Velma M. Allen, 92, passed away Jan. 12, 2009, at Colonial Healthcare Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Kingman, to LeRoy and Amber McAlpine. Her mother died when she was only two years old and she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Jess Doughtery, in Canterbury, New Brunswick. Velma lived in Lincoln, Easton, Florida and Lee, where she had an upholstery business for more than 40 years. She was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Lee, where she enjoyed many years of teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Roger Allen Jr. of Augusta, Ga., Laura Allen Wheeler and husband, Doyle, of Hampden and Zephyrhills, Fla., Albert Allen and wife, Patricia, of Viera, Fla., and Ronald Allen of Carrabassett Valley; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Gregg and Heather Allen of Milford, Jeffery Allen of Chester, Robert and Nicole Allen of St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Sherry and Steve Foster of Linneus, Terrance “Tyke” and Kim McKay of Bangor, Amber and Daniel Trementozzi of Fredericksburg, Va., and Carrie and William Ware of Rockville, Texas; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Velma is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Virginia Allen of Poland, N.Y., and Violet McAlpine of Mountain Home, Idaho; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger J. Allen Sr.; one child at birth; and all her brothers and sisters, Luther McAlpine, Ida Eastman, Ferne Kingsbury, Tressa Furrow and Ressa Mott. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
